CORD’s Mutula Kilonzo defies Raila Odinga and resigns from his Government Job

 - Machakos Senator- elect Mutula Kilonzo has become the first Minister from Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD)to relinquish his post as Education Minister, after the government ordered all Ministers and Assistant  Ministers who won various seats  in the just concluded elections to resign from the Cabinet.

Addressing journalists at his office in Nairobi, Mutula said he couldn’t wait for President Mwai Kibaki to remind him to relinquish his post as Education Minister.

“I don’t need prompting! I’ve already left the Ministry and I am now waiting to know when the swearing date for Senator is,” Mutula said.

It was however not clear if Mutula was given Ministry vehicles and bodyguards attached to him as Education Minister.

Mutula has defied Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s order of telling CORD Ministers on Wednesday, not to quit and continue serving until a new President is sworn in.

Mutula said the new constitution stipulates that one cannot serve two government positions at the same time!
